Eggs with Gilbert Gunn - the importance of slowing down and making intentional memories
Sometimes it's easy to forget what's important in the day-to-day. Just the other night, I was up until 1 am, tackling a never-ending list of "life" things — returning an Amazon purchase, checking up on an undone task, and so on. I let the hustle get the best of me that day. I know when I do, I often miss out on the beauty of little everyday moments.
Recently, I came across an old photo of my great-grandfather, Papa. It brought back memories of our summer mornings on the farm, feeding chickens and hunting for eggs.
These simple moments were filled with joy and connection.
In fact, I still have his jacket that he’s wearing in this photo. It still smells like the farm, even all these years later.
This photo was a stark reminder of the fullness of my life.
It's essential to remember that today is a whole day in and of itself, deserving of acknowledgment. I hope that one day, my son stumbles across an old photo and remembers me, bringing back loving memories of his childhood.
That hope requires me to be intentional, protective of my time, careful about my energy drains, and fully aware of what’s really important.
Today may hold nothing big, no achievements, no sparkles, but it exists for a reason.
