Tasks, tasks everywhere but ne’er a nap to take

Running a business as a married woman is no easy feat.

Between client calls, content creation, and the ever-growing pile of laundry, it can feel like there simply aren't enough hours in the day.

We juggle a million things, often at the expense of our own well-being.

The first step to a more productive and balanced life is self-awareness.

I used to be the queen of the "busy badge."

Relaxation? More like a foreign concept. The thought of taking a break sent me into a tailspin of "what-ifs" and unfinished tasks. I still struggle with not falling into the usual routine of staying busy.

For me to sit down and read a book, veg out on Netflix, or nap… I practically have to have every single thing done that I could possibly do for the next seven days.  If there is a moment where my email inbox is caught up, I find the projects that I’ve put aside for weeks (months, years even?) and start on those.

Rest does not come easy to me.

I had to figure something out to stop the crazy and actually take care of myself.  I found that if I strategized my time better, I could actually create more capacity to get shit done.  Good ole classic “work smarter, not harder”.

It was hard to apply it to entrepreneurship though.  What does working smarter look like when you want to serve your clients, find new clients, dream up great content, and be a thought leader in your industry? Oh and mom and partner stuff too.

Well, truth be told – it looks different for everyone.  Sorry if you wanted a cookie cutter approach, but if I’m being honest, it doesn’t exist.

However, let me share what I’ve done and maybe you can try some of these too –

Time blocking – I set aside time to do the things I want, and the things I hate.  When that time comes up, no matter what, I do it

Boundaries on energy – For the things I hate doing in my business, I try to schedule them at the time of day that I’m at my best.  My coach even recommended doing them first thing in the morning so I don’t avoid it and dread it all day long, bringing down my fun

Boundaries on accessibility – This applied to my personal and professional life.  I had to stop answering emails and texts all day long.  Even the hubs.  I check my texts morning, lunch, end of work day.  Period.  Unless I’m done with literally everything, that’s it.  It was a huge adjustment, mostly for my hubs lol, but with some time, it’s become expected and it’s given me back so much time
