Better from Bali

This summer I decided to journey on to the other side of the Earth and check out a tourist hot spot, Bali. The first few days of my trip I was going solo… completely without a traveling companion. My journey from Savannah, GA to Legian Beach in Bali was going to take me 39 total hours, with me arriving 48 hours from my initial departure time. I left behind my sexy boyfriend (I think he’s still kicking himself for not going), and we chugged a couple of rum & Coke in the airport bar before I left him behind and went towards tropical breezes and surfers. I flew to Atlanta first, then caught a 14-hour flight to Seoul, South Korea. 14 hours doesn’t sound like much, but after the 9 year old girl next to you falls asleep and puts her feet on your shoulders, directly in front of your nose, it starts to feel a little long! The free WiFi disappeared as we flew over Russia & China, and I watched our flight path go in a huge circuitous route around North Korea, before safely landing in Seoul. Despite having a 9-hour layover, I couldn’t do much since we landed at 4am Seoul time. There wasn’t much opportunity for Seoul searching (see what I did there? thanks Toby, my awesome Delta agent who first said that to me), and I found a place to nap - with about 30 other adults, most of whom were grown, loudly snoring men. I eventually caught my last flight, only 7 hours this time, into Denpasar Bali. Immediately when I hit the ground and stepped out into the hot, humid night air, I knew I was going to take on a soul journey. Over the next two weeks, Bali kicked my ass. I found myself dealing with a ton of emotions, both good and bad, as I waded through some old, deep hurts. But luckily the spirits of Bali didn’t do me wrong. My best friend joined me a few days later and we laughed, and cried, and drank, and saw all the sights while Bali had it’s way with us. I’m thankful I made that trip, thankful I faced some rough parts of myself, and thankful that Bali left me better off than it found me.
